Getting the Most from Your Inquiry

A little detail in your first message helps us reply quickly and point you to the right person. Whether you are a collector, a curator, a student or simply someone who saw a work and could not stop thinking about it, here is what makes an inquiry easy to answer.

Questions about a specific work

If you are asking about a painting, sculpture or photograph, please mention the artist's name, the title of the piece if you know it, and the exhibition where you saw it. A photo you took in the gallery or a short description works too. We can usually share details on medium, dimensions, condition and availability, and we are happy to talk through framing, shipping considerations or how a work might sit in your space.

Artists and portfolio submissions

We read every message, but our programme is built slowly and through long conversations, so we may not be able to respond individually to unsolicited portfolios. If you would like to get a sense of the work we show before writing, browse our represented artists and past exhibitions. A short note with a link to your website is far more useful to us than large attachments.

Press, research and education

Writers, editors and researchers looking for images, checklists or background on a show should say so in the subject line and include their deadline. Teachers and group leaders planning a visit are welcome to ask about bringing a class through the space; letting us know your group size and preferred day in advance helps us make the visit calmer and more rewarding for everyone.

Before you come in

Chelsea galleries change installations often, and a space may close briefly between shows. If you are travelling specifically to see something, check our visit page or drop us a line beforehand so you are not caught out by an installation day.

However you reach us, we try to answer thoughtfully rather than with a form letter, so please allow a few working days during busy opening weeks.
